Course Description

The purpose of this information is to take you, step by step, through the requirements of this qualification. This will tell you what you are expected to study, how you are required to study it, and how you are going to be assessed. (Refer to our Student Guide for CHC33015 for more information)

By reading this thoroughly and by following all the instructions provided to you, you will give yourself the best possible chance of successfully developing the required skills and knowledge to obtain competency in this qualification.

Entry Requirements and Enrolment Process

Chandler RTO requires learners to meet following entry requirements to undertake CHC33015 Certificate III Individual Support.

Learners must:

  • Be at least 18 years of age
  • Participate in a course entry interview (Pre-Training Review) to determine suitability for the course and learner needs.
  • Have sufficient language, literacy, and numeracy skills, for example, to read materials relevant to the course, participate in discussions and observations and apply numerical concepts such as in relation to time management. This will be tested through an LLN assessment as part of the course entry process. Learners will need to achieve at least ACSF level 2 for reading, writing, numeracy, and oral communication to enter the course.
  • Be able to obtain a Police Report and Working with Children Check and NDIS Worker Screening Check (if required by placement provider)
  • Be able to undertake work placement provided at an Aged Care Facility for a minimum of 120 hours.
  • Have access to an operating computer, laptop, tablet or smart phone to access online Learning Management Systems (LMS) and to complete assignments on time.

Qualification and Packaging Rules

This qualification reflects the role of workers in the disability center, group homes and community setting who follow an individualized plan to provide person-centered support to people who may require support due to disability, or some other reason. Work involves using discretion and judgment in relation to individual support as well as taking responsibility for own outputs. Workers have a range of factual, technical, and procedural knowledge, as well as some theoretical knowledge of the concepts and practices required to provide person-centered support.

To achieve this qualification, the candidate must have completed at least 120 hours of work as detailed in the Assessment Requirements of the units of competency.

No licensing, legislative, regulatory or certification requirements apply to this qualification at the time of publication.

Packaging Rules

Total number of units = 13 

7 Core units and 6 elective units, 2consisting of:

at least 4 units from the electives listed below, at least 2 units must be from those units listed under Groups A, B or C

up to 2 units from the electives listed below, any endorsed Training Package or accredited course – these units must be relevant to the work outcome

Any combination of electives that meets the rules above can be selected for the award of the Certificate III in Individual Support. Where appropriate, electives may be packaged to provide a qualification with a specialization.

All Group B electives must be selected for award of the Certificate III in Individual Support (Disability).

All electives chosen must contribute to a valid, industry-supported vocational outcome.

Course Duration

This qualification will be delivered over 24 weeks to 52 weeks. A mandatory work placement of at least 120 hours to be completed. Students course duration will vary depending upon their pre-existing knowledge, prior skills and experiences.

Delivery Method

This course will be delivered using a blended methodology. The delivery strategy used in this methodology is a combination of onsite learning and online modules supported by trainer contact, self-study, face to face (on-site and real-time online), simulation and practical at college premises. Majority of the training to be delivered will be divided between a classroom or workplace environment and an online environment.

Recognition Prior Learning (RPL)

All applicants are entitled to apply for Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL). All applicants are informed of their opportunity to apply for both RPL prior to enrolling and are formally presented with the opportunity immediately after the enrolment process.

The procedure to be followed in applying for RPL are described in our RPL & National Recognition Procedure.

The granting of RPL may affect course fees, as well as the duration of the course.

Credit Transfer

Chandler RTO has an obligation to recognize Australian Qualifications Framework (AQF) qualifications and Statements of Attainment issued by other registered training organizations.

All Applicants are entitled to apply for Credit Transfer (CT) if they meet the CT criteria. All Applicants are informed of their opportunity to apply for CT during the time of enrolment and are formally presented with the opportunity immediately after the enrolment process.

Course Fee and Payment Options

Skills First Government Funding:

Victorian residents who undertake undertaking this course may be eligible for Commonwealth and Victorian Government Funding (Skills First). Please refer to Skills First Government Funding & Eligibility section below for eligibility and fees. Alternatively please contact us.

Funded places are limited, so be sure to make a timely application!

Fee-for-Service students:

Chandler RTO understands the student’s needs and situation, so we provide you the best flexible payments system for students not eligible for government funding. For more details please consult with our reception.

Course fee (for fee-for-service students) – $1300.00

Course Fee Policy and Procedures

Course Outcome

The course once competent will leave you with career opportunities to provide Personal Care and can make one understand the entry-level requirements of Disability support Facility. It allows you to follow an individualized plan to provide person-centered support to people who may require support due to ageing, disability or some other reason in relation to individual support as well as taking responsibility for their own outputs. After successful completion of the course, you can apply for opportunities such as:

  • Personal Care Assistant
  • NDIS Care Assistant
  • Transport support worker
  • In-home respite giver/accommodation support worker
  • Community care worker/support worker

Career Pathways

Students achieving this qualification may wish to continue their education into further study such as CHC43015 – Certificate IV in Ageing Support or CHC43121 – Certificate IV in Disability or CHC433 – Certificate IV in Mental Health or CHC52021 – Diploma of Community Services. It can further lead to studying nursing for aspiring students who can meet the study requirements.

Skills First Government Funding and Eligibility

Chandler RTO delivers government-funded courses under the Skills First funding contract. These funded training assists students by subsidising their tuition fees. The training courses are delivered with Victorian and Commonwealth Government funding. Chandler RTO offers the following government funded courses, subject to eligibililty.

  • CHC33015 Certificate III in Individual Support (Ageing)
  • CHC33015 Certificate III in Individual Support (Disability)

Eligibility requirements for courses under the Skills First program

To be eligible for the skills first program, applicants must meet the following requirements:

  • Must be an Australian/New Zealand citizen or Permanent residence
  • Must be a Victorian resident and physically present in Victoria while participating in training and assessment.

There are limits to the number of subsidised courses applicants are entitled to. As per the Skills First Program, an eligible individual can commence a maximum of two (2) Government subsidised courses in a calendar year. Additional eligibility criteria must be met to access funding. Enrolling in Chandler RTO courses under the Skills First Program may impact further access to Government subsidised training.
